The conference was held at the Lord Charles Hotel, Somerset West on the weekend of the 14th May 2010. It was organised by the Helderberg Sunrise club and ran like clockwork. Talks were on a wide variety of topics, mainly related to Rotary activities, but non-Rotarian delegates (partners) were well catered for at separate sessions.

Probably the most exciting and enlightening talk was John Diksa's on SHELTERBOX AND HAITI, detailing how Shelterbox came about, what it does and what these boxes contain. To illustrate this he used the vital role they had played in alleviating the distress of those caught up in the tragedy of the earthquake in Haiti. John is a leading member of the ShelterBox UK team.

On the entertainment side we were treated to a performance by a college brass band as well as Indian dancing by a GSE team from India to South Africa which included brief talks on the experiences by GSE Team members who had been from South Africa to India

Despite a number of very good club dispalys, ours was chosen as the Best In at the Conference!

There was so much more to the conference but perhaps the most valuable aspect of such a gathering is the meeting of members from a wide and diverse range of clubs and countries.

Rotary Club Golf Day

After some initial concerns that the club's 2nd annual Golf Day on the 30th October may not be the success the club was hoping for - what with the economic climate everyone finds themselves in - The Kingsriver Estate and Breederiver Winelands Rotary Club's Golf Day turned out to be a great day!

Some last minute entries ensured a full field, the prizes received from the many generous sponsors were magnificent, Dale Hayes (who donated several prizes himself and presented a Golf Clinic at the end of play in the afternoon) and Trevor Quirk (Auctioneer of special items donated for a Fundraiser Auction after dinner) performed their duties with aplomb.

The main sponsor of the day was Kingsriver Estate, owned by Past President of the Breede River Winelands Rotary club, Ruud de Clercq.
